PixelJunk Shooter 2 set for March 1st!

An announcment on The Playstation Blog by Q-Games President Dylan Cuthbert
stated that the date was set in stone, PixelJunk Shooter will be released exclusively
to the Playstation Network on March 1st!

For those of you who don't know PixelJunk Shooter was the fourth major title in the PixelJunk series, developed by Q-Games. The game uses liquid physics to manipulate magma, water, ice and "the black stuff" to solve environmental puzzles. It was released on the Playsation Store back in December 2009. Since then the game has received positive criticism all around, IGN called it "Q-Games best work yet". The game concluded with "To Be Continued..." which suggested that an "Encore" expansion was likely (similar to those released for PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk Eden). But instead it was later announced that a whole sequel was in the works.

Now I really, really, enjoyed the first Shooter. It's actually one of the few games I have 100% trophies for in my game collection. So of course I was excited to find that it was getting a full sequel instead of DLC. From what I've seen Shooter 2 will show us some new liquids and environments that were never in the first installment. Seeing as a portion of the game takes place inside a giant worm creature filled with acid and other bodily fluids who knows what all we'll see. One thing that I do find very intriguing about Shooter 2 is the play on light and dark. It would seem staying in the darkness for too long will summon a swarm of critters that destroy the the ship.

There are a few other additions being added to the experience, including a new online verses mode which will allow you to choose from the 20 weapons and abilities to take your opponent down a few notches. The weapons and abilities are bought with currency earned from online matches. This currency can also be used to wager on the outcome of your match if you think you're tough enough. Also being added is an "Advanced" Score Attack mode which records player "ghosts" like Mario Kart and uploads them to the online leaderboard.

As a huge fan of the first game, I'm super pumped about PixelJunk Shooter 2 so you can be assured that I'll be right here in my chair on release day. I'm ready to save some more scientists!
